Overview
APU’s graphic design major equips students to use artistic talent to meet business goals. The degree provides a solid foundation in art history, composition, and artistic technique. This provides a context for advanced study of graphic design principles, two- and three-dimensional design, typography, website design, illustration, photography, and computer art processes. Students take additional elective courses in areas that are of particular interest to their career goals. Community projects and internship experiences provide extensive opportunities for graphic design students to apply classroom knowledge and make contacts in the field.
Throughout the program, students explore the artist/client relationship, techniques for artistic problem-solving, and the graphic designer’s creative mindset. Students learn to define audience and client needs and translate them into an appropriate aesthetic and professional result. Graphic design majors leave APU prepared to create artwork that communicates effectively and meets client and customer needs.
