Overview

APU’s communication studies major prepares students to combine convincing arguments with the appropriate media in order to express ideas and concepts. The degree provides a solid foundation in mass communication, journalism, rhetorical theory, interpersonal communication, and research methods. These then provide a framework for advanced study in one of four areas of concentration.

Interpersonal and organizational communication focuses on the communication and conflict-management skills needed in business and non-profit settings. Media studies focuses on the role of broadcasting, electronic media, and film in persuasion and shaping popular attitudes. Rhetoric and public address centers on persuasion, argumentation, and debate. Communication studies majors leave APU equipped to convey an effective and compelling message.
