Overview

When candidates complete their coursework at a university, they are issued a preliminary teaching credential by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (California SB 2042). If candidates are employed by a public school, they are required to complete a two-year induction program through their local school district.

At the end of the induction, the district applies for the Clear Credential. Candidates who are working for private or non-public schools may take additional coursework to meet the induction requirements. This coursework comprises the Fifth-Year Program.

At the completion of the coursework, candidates may apply for their 2042 Clear Credential.
