Libraries and Collections
Overview
The APU libraries include the William V. Marshburn Library (East Campus), the Hugh and Hazel Darling Library (West Campus), the Stamps Theological Reference Room (West Campus), and six off-campus libraries supporting academic programs at the APU Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Murrieta, and Ventura Regional Centers.
A unified catalog identifies the more than 215,000 books, media items, and 1,800 periodical titles in the libraries' print collections. More than 630,000 microforms include the Library of American Civilization, Library of American Literature, New York Times, and Educational Resources Information Center collections. The university network also provides access to more than 100 online databases, which include more than 12,000 full-text periodical titles and 23,000 electronic books.
Special Collections
Special Collections of Azusa Pacific University are housed in the Thomas F. Andrews Room of the Hugh and Hazel Darling Library, located on APU's West Campus. Access to the items in Special Collections is provided through the Library Catalog, and through finding aids. Arrangements to use Special Collections must be made through the Special Collections Librarian, Ken Otto. Arrangements can be made by mail, e-mail (kotto@apu.edu), or voice mail (626-815-6000 x5263).

Hugh and Hazel Darling Library
The holdings of the Hugh and Hazel Darling Library include collections supporting computer science, education, nursing, professional psychology, and the Special Collections of Azusa Pacific University. The library is comprised of two main areas that are connected by the ECF Academic Hall of Fame where academic achievements of individuals from the university community are displayed. The Stamps Rotunda offers a traditional library environment of book stacks and individual study carrels, and the Ahmanson Integrated Information Technology Center includes 75 workstations at double carrels with the ability to conduct research using the latest computer technology. This center also houses several scholar study rooms, group study rooms, conference rooms, and the Special Collections Reading Room. The Berger Computer Training Room with 22 computer workstations is located here along with the Department of Technical Services processing facility for acquisitions, cataloging, and serials.
William V. Marshburn Memorial Library
The holdings of the William V. Marshburn Memorial Library include collections supporting liberal arts and sciences, music, and business. The library has a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week study area adjacent to the Cornerstone Cafe; 40 computer workstations in the information commons, and 7 group study rooms. This library houses the Sakioka Computer Training Center with 20 computer workstations and the Media Center with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, providing access to a large video, CD, DVD, and cassette tape collection. It also houses Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery Services, the children's literature collection, and the Writing Center.
James L. Stamps Theological Library
The James L. Stamps Theological Library, located in the Duke Academic Complex, houses the university library collections in the areas of biblical studies, theology, philosophy, church history, and ethics. The collection currently numbers approximately 60,000 volumes, including a specialized denominational collection reflecting the rich traditions of the university's Christian heritage, and is supplemented through several consortial arrangements. The Stamps Theological Library is an institutional member of the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) and a member of the regional Southern California Theological Library Association (SCATLA) consortium.
Regional Center Libraries
The university libraries support the academic programs at the regional centers by providing core library collections, access to all APU online information tools and resources, and a full range of library services. Each regional center includes computers providing direct access to library resources and services. Media Center
The George I. Alden Trust Media Center is located on the main level of Marshburn Library. It features state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, a large video, CD, and DVD collection, instructional video and audio tapes, and cassettes of chapel services, concerts, and campus information. Individual carrels and group study rooms are also available, along with a number of assistive technology resources. Additional information is available on the Media Center page.
Children's Literature Collection
The Children's Literature Collection is housed on the upper floor of Marshburn Library, and is intended to support the research and study of Children's and Young Adult Literature. The 5,000-volume collection features materials for children of preschool age through 12th grade, and includes distinguished Newbery Award, Caldecott Medal Award, Coretta Scott King Award, California Young Reader Medal, and Pura Belpre Award-winning titles.
Denominational Collection
The Denominational Collection is housed in the Stamps Theological Library. It contains both current and historical materials about denominations with historic ties to the university, including the Church of God – Anderson, Free Methodist, Friends, Holiness, and Salvation Army.
Test Collection
The Test Collection contains samples of standardized educational and psychological tests for examination and study. Tests may be checked out by faculty members whose field requires use of standardized tests, or students taking a course in which standardized tests are taught. Test collection users must apply for authorization so that the tests' validity is not compromised. Additional information is available on the Test Collection page.
