September 4, 2006

AZUSA, Calif. –

For the sixth consecutive year, Azusa Pacific University secured a place among the Top 25 of U.S.News & World Report’s 2007 America’s Best Colleges Western Universities-Master’s classification, ranking 15th in a two-way tie with St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, Tex., up from last year’s 22nd place ranking. Additionally, APU’s first-year experience was named among 52 of the nation’s top programs. In 2006, APU was 1 of 42 in the nation recognized for Best Academic Programs for Service Learning.

Also, for the third consecutive year, The Princeton Review designated APU as 1 of 123 colleges in the 2007 Best in the West category.

“I am thrilled that U.S.News & World Report has recognized APU for the sixth time as one of America’s best universities,” said APU President Jon R. Wallace, DBA. “This community of disciples and scholars continues to pursue the highest standards of God-honoring excellence.”

In addition to APU, three other Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) member schools ranked in the Top 25 for the Western-Universities Master’s classification, continuing to demonstrate excellence in Christian higher education. More than half of the Top 25 western schools maintain religious affiliation.

“These latest rankings confirm the strategic direction of the university to hire world class faculty; strive for research and teaching excellence; and provide a personalized, transformational experience for every student,” said Michael M. Whyte, Ph.D., provost.

APU is among 557 schools nationwide ranked in the universities-master’s classification. Seven primary areas are considered in the ranking, including peer assessment, retention and graduation rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving. Rankings are derived 75 percent from objective measures, and 25 percent from a reputation survey distributed to presidents, provosts, and deans of admission at participating schools.
