Southern California Wildfire Update
November 15, 2008

Updated 9:15 a.m., November 17, 2008

The Azusa Pacific campus and all regional centers remain safe and have not be directly impacted by the fires in any way. We continue to pray for those in our community who live in the impacted areas.

To date, the fires have destroyed more than 800 homes and buildings and scorched more than 35,000 acres. The Sayre Fire and Triangle Complex Fire continue to burn and both are at 40 percent containment. Additional updates can be found at www.fire.ca.gov/index_incidents_info.php.

We are aware that some members of the APU faculty and staff have been impacted by the fires. Please let us know if you have experienced fire-related losses so that we may pray for you and support you in this time of need.

You may notify us at apusupport@apu.edu. A number of resources are being mobilized to assist faculty and staff that may have been directly impacted by these fires.

We will continue to provide updates on the university website.

In response to major wind-fanned wildfires raging across more than 11,000 acres throughout Southern California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles, one day after Santa Barbara County’s Montecito fire claimed 111 homes and inflicted damage to Westmont College. These Southern California fires destroyed hundreds of home, displaced thousands, and shut down major freeways

Thankfully, Azusa Pacific University is not affected by any of the major fires still burning (Freeway Fire, Sayre Fire, and Tea Fire) nor are any of its seven regional centers.

Please join APU students, faculty, and staff in prayer for the firefighters battling the blazes, as well as the families and individuals who have lost their homes.
