Overview

APU’s philosophy major equips students to think clearly and critically about the world around them. Introductory and advanced philosophy coursework introduces current and historical interpretations of self, the world, and God. In addition to advanced philosophical concepts, students learn the principles of logic and semantics, how to assess the validity of arguments, and the principles of ethical conduct as applied to personal and social problems. Later coursework allows students to focus on special areas of interest, including the philosophy of science, comparative religions, and modern political thought.

Students gain the ability to express themselves in a concise, persuasive manner; identify, define and solve complex problems; and recognize the underlying assumptions that motivate human behavior. Philosophy majors leave APU equipped for decision-making and ready to lead.
